Shakespeare Slam Competition

Nine competitors entered into the 2019 Shakespeare Slam Competition, performing works from Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Two Gentlemen of Verona, King Henry VI Part III, Othello, Taming of the Shrew, and Twelfth Night.

Details:

You can participate in more than 1 presentation (limit 2 per person per category, totaling 4 presentations). Categories are Individual and Group, both divided by age. Please fill out a new form for each performance you are participating in. Groups should only fill out 1 form per presentation and include the group members’ names.

Adults may perform with minors in a group but will not be judged. At least 2 participants in a minor group must be under the age of 18. Minors may perform in an adult group and will be judged. Participants who do not want to be judged in a group performance may use a script in their presentation, only off-book (no scripts in hand) participants will be judged (at least 2 per group).

Groups should only fill out 1 form per group.

Groups and individuals will be judged on their memorization of the script (points will be deducted for inaccurate words and for using scripts or cue cards on stage, unless participating with a group where the participant is not being judged), voice and presence on stage, comprehension of the piece, and overall performance. Prizes will be given to the top participant in each category. Costumes do not need to be worn, costumes will not be judged. School groups and theater troupes are encouraged to participate.

You may choose the work you are presenting. Works must be from the complete works of William Shakespeare and may include scenes, monologues, sonnets, and narrative poems written by Shakespeare. You may email RecycledShakespeare@gmail.com the text you are using or Recycled Shakespeare Company will provide the judges with a copy based on the information provided.

Please arrive no later than 5:45pm on March 7th to check-in.
